1. Pengertian Narrative Text
Narrative Text adalah teks yang berisi cerita tentang suatu peristiwa atau kejadian yang disusun secara kronologis dengan tujuan menghibur pembaca atau pendengar. Cerita dalam narrative text biasanya berupa cerita rakyat, legenda, dongeng, atau cerita fiksi yang memiliki alur cerita yang jelas.
Narrative text sering mengandung konflik atau masalah yang dialami tokoh dan diakhiri dengan penyelesaian masalah.

2. Tujuan Narrative Text
Tujuan narrative text adalah:
To entertain the reader
Menghibur pembaca dengan cerita yang menarik.
To tell a story
Menceritakan suatu peristiwa atau kejadian.
To convey moral values
Menyampaikan pesan moral atau pelajaran hidup.
3. Struktur Narrative Text (Generic Structure)
1. Orientation
Bagian ini berisi pengenalan cerita, yaitu:
Tokoh (characters)
Tempat (setting of place)
Waktu (setting of time)

Once upon a time, there lived a poor farmer in a small village.
2. Complication
Bagian ini berisi masalah atau konflik yang dialami oleh tokoh dalam cerita.
Contoh:
One day, the farmer lost his only cow.
3. Resolution
Bagian ini menjelaskan penyelesaian masalah yang terjadi dalam cerita.
Contoh:
Finally, the farmer found his cow and brought it back home.
4. Reorientation (Optional)
Bagian ini adalah penutup cerita atau pesan moral dari cerita tersebut.
Contoh:
From that day, the farmer learned to be more careful.
4. Ciri-ciri Kebahasaan Narrative Text (Language Features)
Narrative text memiliki beberapa ciri kebahasaan, yaitu:
1. Menggunakan Past Tense
Karena cerita terjadi di masa lalu.

2. Menggunakan Action Verbs
Kata kerja yang menunjukkan tindakan.

Kata penghubung waktu untuk menunjukkan urutan cerita.

Kadang terdapat percakapan langsung.

The Lion and the Mouse
Orientation

Complication
The lion woke up and caught the mouse. The mouse begged the lion to let him go.
Resolution
One day, the lion was trapped in a hunter's net. The mouse came and gnawed the net until the lion was free.
Reorientation
The lion thanked the mouse for helping him.
7. Pesan Moral Narrative Text
Banyak narrative text memiliki moral value, yaitu pesan yang dapat dipelajari pembaca.
Contoh pesan moral:
Kindness will be rewarded.
Do not underestimate others.
Honesty is the best policy.
